Dual Fuel means using two fuels to heat the home instead of one.
Typically dual fuel involves combining a high-efficiency heat pump
unit with a fossil fuel furnace (natural gas or propane) to heat
a home. A heat pump is a home comfort unit that will heat your home
in the winter and cool it efficiently in the summer. With dual fuel
the heat pump will meet the heating needs of the typical home very
economically down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. At that point, when
the efficiency of the heat pump is dropping off, and Howard Electric
is reaching a peak demand for electricity, an outdoor thermostat
switches to the fossil fuel furnace. By allowing the switch to the
fossil fuel furnace, members can experience savings on their electrical
costs by reducing peak demands during such times as very cold temperatures.
This allows the cooperative system to operate more efficiently and
helps to control electricity prices to our members. Additionally
a duel fuel system benefits our members by allowing them to use
two efficient heating methods during the times that both operate
at their maximum efficiency.
$300 Rebate: Howard Electric offers a $300 Rebate to any
member installing a dual fuel system who meets the Cooperative's
installation requirements. With a minimum SEER of 14.5, an
additional $150/ton rebate is given; conditions apply. In addition to the $300, some dealers
are offering rebates through their manufacturers.
Discounted Electric Rate for Dual Fuel: Howard Electric
also offers at 1.5¢ per kilowatt hour discount to members utilizing
a Dual Fuel system from November 1 thru May 1, provided the
metering occurs on a secondary meter for the heating system.
