2012 Essay Topic
"What can homeowners do to become more energy efficient?"

Howard Electric Cooperative sponsors an essay and speech contest for juniors going to high schools in the Howard Electric service area. The winner of this contest will join 1,200 other winners from across the nation, receiving an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C. in June of each year and receive a $500 scholarship to the college of your choice. The essays must be mailed to Howard Electric by March 31st
In Washington, D.C., you will see all the historic sites, the Houses of Government, landmarks, and meet your Congressman and Senators. Al
l you have to do to win is:
- Be a junior in High School
- Decide to enter
- Research your material (provided by Howard Electric)
- Write the essay (250-500 words)
- Become a finalist
- Be judged a winner
- Pack your bags

CYCLE
Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience

The CYCLE program is a three day conference held in Jefferson City in late July. It brings in some of the brightest young leaders from across Missouri. The focus is to show students more about electric cooperatives, teach leadership skills and expereince Missouri State Government. The program includes nationally known speakers and a day at the state Capitol. There is also time for some fun things like an outdoor bargeque. The group is also divided up into smaller teams that compete in carious events like the "build a cooperative" game. A CYCLE winner will be chosen from the group of Youth Tour applicants.
